This morning;
Me: What do you want?
Maia: BISCUITS!
Me: When do you want them?
Maia: BISCUITS!
Me: Ok!
LOL Yes, it only means my daughter loves biscuits!
IN OTHER NEWS: Classes start June 13th. It is almost June and I'm already preparing my daughter for preschool. That said, one of my dilemmas as a mom is what to get her for baon/snacks in school. It is quite a challenge for me because... gaaaah leeeeh, she's such a notoriously picky eater! I want to give her healthy snacks that she will eventually enjoy eating in school instead of feeding her with highly processed foods full of sugar and additives. I also believe that kids who eat healthy, learn, behave and perform better in school.

I'm just glad I found the solution last Tuesday. :) I was invited to attend the Bulong Pulungan sa Sofitel which talks about the country's status on nutrition deficiency with Filipino kids, as well as fighting undernutrition.

Nutrient deficiency is a key public health issue in our country and some other developing markets in Southeast Asia.
I've learned that normally, a kid needs about 1,400 kcal a day and only 21.5 percent meet or almost 4 out of 5 kids ages 6-12 do not meet their daily energy needs. This results to having a weak immune system, poor growth and development and diseases. This also leads to poor performance of kids in school.

With fellow mommy bloggers, Mommy Leira of http://www.pagaspas.com/, Mommy Jo of http://www.jobonsol.net/, and Mommy Angelyn of http://mommysmaglife.blogspot.com.
That brings us, moms, to support an advocacy of fighting undernutrition by giving our kids the best possible nutrition in their baon. With the tagline, "Ang tamang baon, may tamang nutrisyon. Labanan ang school performance," these crunchy biscuits are fortified with the nine vitamins and six minerals recommended by the World Food Programme. Kraft Tiger Energy Biscuit contains Enermaxx, an unparalleled combination of 9 vitamins and 6 minerals which help provide kids with the energy they need. That's Vitamin A, D, E, B1, B2, B6, B9 and B12 and the minerals Calcium, Iron, Iodine, Magnesium, Selenium and Zinc. 15 essential micronutrients from just a pack of Tiger Energy Biscuit should help the child build strong bones, strengthen immunity and promote growth.
Kraft is one of the trusted brands and they believe that kids today need to get more active to be healthy. Through its campaigns, Tiger provides opportunities for kids to be physically active, while giving the proper nutrition in their baon. Best of all, they make amazing biscuits that the kids LOVE! And as a girl born in Balanga where people love dipping biscuits to coffee for brekky, I can’t say no to a biscuit!
I just had to try their biscuits, and after eating for a while I declared it to be the best energy biscuits ever. This is really saying something. These energy bisuits are amazing and these biscuits give slow release energy! Not only that, they taste amazing and it's not overly sweet! For some reason, when I hear they are fortified with vitamins and healthy-ish, I usually know it's bland, tasteless and I am not going to like it. So that was a real surprise. It was partly that the biscuit was crunchy & crispy, tasted homemade and was full of awesomeness because it's made of wheat and milk. For me, this is some kind of a superfood, and so good you might be inclined to do yourself a mischief. Be warned. Also, I was ecstatic because my little Maia loves it to bits!
Can't wait to pack them in my kiddo's school lunchbox and then happily eat them in the afternoon. Oh and I can't complain at the price either! There are six yummy biscuits in the package and I could not eat them all at once, unless I share them with my daughter. Let me tell ya, these biscuits are really good. Each bite of Tiger comes with jampacked energy to help bring out the winning spirit in every child. You could make a great breakfast or baon for your kiddo from these biscuits alone! It was hard not to fill up and your tot will have that much-needed energy for school.
With Tiger Energy biscuits, our kids get to enjoy a vitamin fortified, delicious snack. It's available in vanilla and chocolate flavor. Being a certified chocoholic, Maia loves the chocolate more than the vanilla. It’s affordable nutrition, and one of the ways to meet the health and wellness needs of our kids.
I believe I also need these biscuits on hand for those really, really busy mornings. With or without the coffee, these biscuits can't be missed. Actually, I was dunkin' some Kraft Tiger energy biscuits for my daughter last night, just in case she wakes up needing extra energy for today.
Here she is, stacking biscuits and cookies up! :)

I look forward to many, many more Tiger Energy biscuits here. :)

Last Tuesday, I have witnessed the launching of the Malabon Kulinarya Festival at Dampa sa Paseo which was held in celebration of the city’s 413th Foundation Day.
Honestly, I only know two things Malabon is famous for: Pansit Malabon and their bilaos with colorful swirls of kakanin from Dolor's. But then, I discovered almost a hundred of homegrown dishes and delicacies from Malabon like pichi-pichi, pork binagoongan, okoy, lumpiang hubad, ginataang labong, and a lot more. It showcased the diversity of its rich culinary tradition. All the dishes were prepared and presented with a distinct touch and flavor of Malabon.
Not being a native of Malabon, I didn't know any of them so almost everything there was new to me. And with a great number of vendors and booths lined up, there was a lot of eating and munching. I didn't even know where to start digging, there were so many great food to try.

Judy Ann’s crispy pata. You gotta try it my dear, and I'm pretty sure your palate will be in a happy, happy place. Just, please, don't overeat or else... lol

Nanay's broas, which I didn't get to try. Sadly, it was gone in 60 seconds.

Empananay's Empanada. Now this.. this is my baby girl's favorite. The owner was real sweet to give me a box of ham & cheese empanada. Maia loved them! As for me, I could eat this empanada all day. Good God, they were freaking tasty and how I wish they have a branch here in Mandaluyong, right next where we live.

Ginataang labong. This was the first time I've tried it so I didn't know what to expect, but it didn't disappoint. It was cooked just right and the gata was very flavorful.

I'm going nuts with this peanut butter. Soooo creamy.

I am not a big fan of puto or rice cakes, but these rice cakes changed my mind. lol These were soft, spongy and filled with so much flavor.
Other sweet and delectable attractions are the ff:

I just had one bite of this sweet treat and I'm still in the process of biting, chewing and swallowing it. I think I gotta have another bite for me to relish the sweet taste and texture of this cake. lol

These chocolate chip cookies had a great taste in the wonderful world of cookies. It was chewy, with crunchy edges and blended flavor. It'll definitely give a sensuous rush for chocoholics like me.
I couldn't get over this Turon pinipig. Surprisingly delicious. In fact, I loved it so much that I actually went back for seconds. This one is not to be missed!
Too bad I wasn't able to try the other dishes and just as I was nearing food coma after the food-tasting, we were invited for a sumptuous lunch at the VIP room with Mayor Lenlen Oreta. The lunch was delish. The pork binagoongan and lumpiang hubad were my favorites plus my all-time fave sapin-sapin from Dolor's and Arny-Dading's Peachy-Peachy.
Overall, it was a fantastic food festival for food lovers young and old and it’s been such a pleasure
coming to this event. It was a brilliant day, an awesome lunch, and great opportunity
to enjoy good quality food with my fellow foodie bloggers, as well as discover new dishes from the city of
Malabon. It was a far place for me to visit but it was totally worth it. There was not one dish I didn't like! That said, thanks and much love to Mhel of http://www.certifiedfoodies.com for the invite, I look forward to the next one. :)
So guys, get your grub on at Malabon and go on a hometown feast for all your senses.

Malabon Kulinarya Festival
Actually, it was my first time to visit Malabon and I was more than happy to be invited in this festival. Why? Because I’d like to know what it’s like to have a taste of Malabon and to learn more about the unique Malabon cooking style.
Honestly, I only know two things Malabon is famous for: Pansit Malabon and their bilaos with colorful swirls of kakanin from Dolor's. The food festival is one of the highlights of the month-long celebration of the 413th Malabon Foundation Day. In the opening speech of Acting City Mayor Lenlen Oreta, he explained that they want to share the culinary wonders anddistinct taste of Malabon dishes to more people in the country through this festival. He also cited the innate talents and expertise of people in Malabon in the field of food preparation and culinary arts. It is heartening to see that the officials are making such great efforts in maintaining its distinct food culture despite the continuous increase in the number of fast food chains in the city and impact of urbanization.

There was a cooking demo which was spearheaded by Ms. Annie Pascual-Guerrero, the founder of Center for
Culinary Arts (CCA) and a native of Malabon.
She was assisted by Chef Mira Cruz who is also originally from Malabon. They demonstrated how to cook Sumpia and Adobong Pusit Malabon style.

The sumpia which is actually a "lumpia" were made of spring rolls with suahe or shrimps and assorted vegetables like cabbage, carrots, green beans, and kamote, added with ground roasted peanuts and sugar.

Mind you, the amount of food was so overwhelming and it was very hard to sample everything all in one go. However, being the consummate foodie that I am, I managed to try just about everything I wanted to try. I elbowed my way to the crowd, grabbed tasty tidbits at every turn and got pretty full in the process. The food there was TDF! (TDF=To Die For)
Some of the highlights of the food fest include:
Chicken teriyaki from Jack’s food haus. So far, this is the most tasty interpretation of chicken teriyaki that I can remember having.

Malabon is truly a place where you can experience the best lugaw, crispy pata, pancit, sumpia and other sweet delicacies without hurting your pockets. It has a lot to offer more than its famous Pancit malabon and it is up to us, guys, to discover these potentials when we travel to Malabon.
On a side note, there will also be a cooking contest on that seeks to discover and develop new talent in the field of cooking on May 21, 2012, to be held at the Malabon Amphitheater.

ME: Your eyes are red, you been drinking?!
BRO: No. Your eyes are glazed, you been eating donuts?!
ME: Uhmm, yes! :)
Haha My brother knows me so well. Yesterday, I got a sweet treat from Go Nuts Donuts! I was anxious to try their donuts and I finally got to try it! Now, I'm going nuts and I'm craving for more Go Nuts donuts. :)
If this week had a scent, it would be of donuts, donuts, and donuts. :) My faves are the sugar-free donuts and of course, the peanut butter!
I'm amazed how could one of my favorite things be transformed into a sugar-free donut and still taste so good. I have had two of them so far and I have been pleasantly surprised. I was sad that donuts would be a rare thing for my ultimate goal to have a healthier lifestyle, but now, I don't need to feel as guilty! Hah! :)
Go Nuts Sugar-Free donuts/Go Nuts Lite (as low as PhP 18.00 ea) A no sugar added version with the same melt-in-your-mouth quality the Brand is known for. Go Nuts Lite has less than one gram of sugar, low in carbohydrates and high in fiber. It's available in two variants: Choco Frost and Amazing Glaze. A gastronomic tower of Griddlecakes, Crisp Spinach Ravioli, Grilled Vegetable & Mozzarella, Shrimply Loaded sandwich and Wild Mushroom Cream Sauce. If these menu items don’t get you in the mood for breakfast, you can hold out for brunch at BrewKus, the beverage-sandwich shop. This is one of the breakfast/brunch places in the stretch of Valero, strategically located at the heart of Makati's central business district.

This high end sandwich shop is known for using top of the line ingredients and they serve delicious food for breakfast or lunch.
Let's start with the finger bites or appetizers, the Crisp Mushroom Ravioli. Now this.. THIS is amazing! It's a scrumptious mix of diced shitake mushrooms and cream cheese sandwiched in between golden crisp wanton wrappers that are deep fried to perfection.

Still has a crispy crust till the last bit, it's super tender, and they make a great rustic tomato sauce to go over the top. It's a must try!!!
They also have yummy, fluffy griddlecakes, 3 stacks drizzled with chocolate with hashbrowns and sunny side up egg. As you can see, the portions are massive and it takes up an entire plate. Definitely good for sharing and these are large portions that'll surely leave you stuffed and satisfied. :)
The Grilled Vegetable & Mozzarella is a medley of pesto-based shitake mushrooms, eggplant, zucchini, ripe tomatoes, grilled to tender perfection topped with a generous amount of mozzarella cheese.
Shrimply Loaded sandwich is a succulent mixture of sautéed shrimps, garlic, infused with rich blend of asparagus in cream sauce cream and parmesan cheese.
My personal favorite is the wild mushroom pasta... diced shitake and button mushroom in a cream-based sauce made even better with slices of proschiutto and drizzled with premium truffle oil. Only one word describes it... AWESOME.
You can pair all of these tasty dishes with the different blends of coffees, milk teas, and fruit teas available at BrewKus. Their coffee prices start at P80, teas at P70. Served ice cold. :)

I was triply blessed to meet the lovely chef Shiela who also had a short yet interesting cooking demo of how to make our own beer batter. The demo and presentation of the food really spoke to me in regards to the extent of care Chef Sheila take.

I am very fussy on my fish, but this one had a beautiful fluffy and crispy batter on it, and when I cut into it, the fish inside was flaky, not dry and it's super tender. Loved it!

Lots of seating & spacious enough for group meetings. It has a homey, comfy kinda atmosphere. Also, the staff are very friendly, attentive but non-intrusive.
This is a casual breakfast place where you can go for a decent meal with friends or family. Period. And it delivers. Prolly one of the best breakfast/brunch spots in the city!
I'd definitely return.

Now tell me ... What's your favorite breakfast place?

I was glad to be invited at Bo's Coffee Blogger's meetup. So even if it was scorchin' hot yesterday, I ducked out for a caffeine fix, keen to check out the cafe. Hot afternoon for coffee yet I believe it’s never too late for a frappe or coffee. After all it’s always morning somewhere in the world. :)

Needless to say, I was taken aback by the quality and variety offered at Bo's coffee. It's a great place for people watching and a latte. :) They also have an extensive selection of beans for you to take home.
For the record, Bo's coffee is now on its 16th year of serving Just Roasted Freshness, and it has come so far from its humble beginnings as a six-table kiosk in Cebu to being one of the country’s most successful coffee brands. They now have 57 branches in the Philippines.
Nothing is better than the smell of freshly roasted. If you love the smell of freshly roasted coffee, (like me) you can visit their branch in Bonifacio High Street because they do have a roaster there. Whenever I smell freshly brewed coffee, I just stick my nose in and take a deep breath.
On to more important things, the quality and freshness of their locally-grown coffee beans shows the big difference from all other coffee shops. Its beans, mostly from Cordillera and Bukidnon, are delivered to its stores soon after roasting so that you can enjoy the distinctively bold, roasted flavour of Bo’s.
Today, Bo’s Coffee continuously grows with Mr. Benitez’s passion to bring world-class coffee experience to the country. Bo's Coffee looks forward to even more aggressive expansion in the coming years, both locally and abroad.

The Green Tea frappucino + Biscotti Amaretto blended frappes! Don't worry bout these frappes I sorted them out. They were delish. :)
I'm a daily frappe drinker because my sweet, loving bro who is a Store manager in Starbucks, never fails to bring a cup of coffee or frappe from Starbucks. I've tried them all and I must say, the taste and goodness of Bo's is pretty close to Starbucks' frappes and this one definitely hit the spot.

Love at first bite!
On a sweet note, I would personally recommend the Super Moist chocolate cake. It definitely satisfied my sweet tooth. The chocolate is so decadent, perfectly light, moist, flavorful, and not too sweet. A slice of cake can be shared between two people, but if you're a dessert-fan like I am, you would attempt to devour the whole thing yourself!

Super Moist chocolate cake. Yummy in my tummy!
Seriously, this one went beyond a chocolate cake! Every bite was a biteful of chocolate, I was in sugar heaven. :)
![]() |
Blueberry cheescake
Blueberry cheescake.. this is legit and it's one of their bestselling cakes! I guess I just have to try it and walk past countless opportunities to get my cheesecake fix here one of these days.

Green tea frappe... how comforting!
As a green tea lover, I appreciate that they use authentic matcha green tea powder on their frappucino, instead of the typical syrup found at most coffee shops. It is creamy and rich, sweet and comforting.

Fruits & Nuts Trail mix
For runners and health buffs, try their Fruits & Nuts Trail mix. You might also want to try the sugar-free Coffee Vanilla Primo, Strawberry Freeze or Vanilla Freeze. Guiltless pleasures. :)

The atmosphere is delightfully satisfying and I had an awesome coffee shop experience. I love the fact that they use native wooden chairs and tables. Very Pinoy lang ang peg. It is located at 4th floor CyberZone, SM North annex, it's pretty small, but it's very clean and tidy. There are large windows overlooking outside of the mall which let in plenty of light in the day, so it didn't feel cramped at all.
The staff deserves special mention. They were not only goodlooking and refreshingly friendly, they seem genuinely pleased to see and serve customers.
The whole experience was lovely. Everything was very affordable and I was all stuffed to the brim. I believe a relaxing break is the key to the perfect cup of coffee and the best place to enjoy it is at Bo's coffee. Forgo your normal run to Starbucks, this place is about the same price, probably lower. And this place isn't over hyped, overpriced and overrated. Ok, now my bro's gonna kill me. Haha ;p

Just took home of these lovely mugs! Loved it!
Seriously though, this place brings a smile to my face and I'm already thinking of the next chance I'll have to stop by again! I might have a late night love affair with a slice of Oreo cheesecake and a hot cup of green tea.
So whether you need a morning pick-me-up or you are going in for coffee, cookies, cakes, or some other pastry that they sell, you won't be disappointed. Enjoy with friends over a hot cup of coffee or tag friends you love hanging out with!
Check out their website HERE and like them on Facebook HERE for updates on their latest promos and newest product offerings.
Stop in soon and give it a try! :)
I said to my younger cousin who is getting chubbier by the day, "You're a big girl!" She replied, "You too! So tell me something I don't know." I said, "Salad tastes good." :)
Of course, we were just teasing each other. She's one of my closest cousins and like her, I felt like pinching my own cheeks cause it's getting chubbier too. That said, we have decided to try to eat more healthily to lose weight. We usually eat tons of meat and junkfoods and throw in some healthy fats because our metabolism is crazy. We seriously love to eat. However, we know that we need to start eating more healthy... but first we need to eat all the junk food in the fridge so it's not there to tempt us anymore right? Haha Kidding aside, we'd like to become healthy eaters plain and simple. But my cousin hates eating salad or anything green and she also hates dieting.
Well, I believe dieting shouldn't be miserable. We can still eat healthy and enjoy foods we like. Saying we can't go on a more balanced diet and eat healthy food will only make it harder. We can't just eat ANY food and stay fit and maintain our weight. I can't eat pizza or bacon everyday (although I wish I could). *wink*
I guess the best way to get in shape is eat healthy, exercise moderately and kill everyone thinner than us huh? LOL Please don't take the last part seriously. It's a joke. I know it's hard at first but it's doable to eat something healthy and yummy at the same time! And it's a FACT!

Foods that nourish..

Angelo Narciso Songco
I'm not picky with food yet I barely eat healthy, finally I ate something new in my life. So I found something new and freaking healthy that I like better than water. :)
I also think I am becoming a Flexitarian! Now the question is, what the flex is a flexitarian?
To be honest, I had not heard the term flexitarian until Angelo mentioned that he's a flexitarian. So I googled it and I found out that it is a group defined as “a vegetarian who occasionally eats meat; omnivore who mostly eat a plant-based diet but also eat animal meat occasionally." Hmmm.. I'm sure I cannot be a Vegan ever but it's possible for me to become a flexitarian too because I love salad as much as I love eating meat. That's why I thank Spanky for inviting me and I thank God I found out about Sugarleaf.
Sugarleaf has two floors, the ground floor is a mini-mart where you can buy organic produce and healthy snacks, food products and a lot more.

Feel super with Superfood!
The second floor is perfect for an all-day dining! I love the place because it is cozy and the atmosphere is pretty laid back.
We tried some of their specials, and let me tell you, they were all delicious!

Dear Garden Greens Salad, Thank you for making me full. Love, Chelle
For some, it may look incredibly boring but for me it's a rainbow of colorful green and purple of beet root, carrot, romaine, lettuce and cucumber... all bursting with phyto-nutrients, vitamins and minerals. I really enjoyed a hearty helping of fresh organic vegetables with a variety of homemade dips and dressings. I tried the 3 available dressings; blueberry, lemon balm and passion fruit. The last one was my fave and the others just gave me a sour and weird taste. The tossed salad of fresh-picked colors where the beets bring out a sweet, earthy flavor in the veggie, goes with everything.
Now these... these are yummy, healthful meals that you can eat to your heart's desire and simply get more and more health benefits.

Chugged and washed it all down with a few glasses of smoothies; Mix Berry Goody Kefir-chia Smoothies, Choco-Banana Organic Soya-Chia Milkshakes and Strawberry Organic Soya-Chia Milkshakes. They're all refreshingly good and creamy, packed with billions of healthy probiotics and powered up with superfood. Yummy in my tummy!
After lunch, don't forget to treat yourself with guilt-less, low glycemic desserts and Jello's Coco-Kefir ice cream which is also available for takeout.
Most flavours are vegan for lactose intolerant customers. I was able to try Jello's Coco Kefir Ice Cream and Vegan Cherry Pistachio and Vegan Vanilla Bean. The taste of the coconut milk in the Vegan vanilla bean ice cream is so rich and distinct. You won't miss it! The texture is perfect and nutrition is not sacrificed as coco-kefir gives the creaminess and beneficial probiotics all in one go. :)

My cup of Jello's Coco Kefir Ice Cream is bright, creamy and playful in color, this dessert can pair well with anything! Yummy!

I seldom eat breakfast & it's supposed to be the biggest meal of the day. They also say it's the most important meal of the day to kick start your metabolism and get the metabolism going. Yikes! I know I need to start eating at the right time of the day because I refuse to keep this baby fats on. Good thing I was invited to Teleserv's Blogger's Breakfast at Harvest Gastro Pub and was one of the first people to try their new breakfast menu. It was the former Alexandre, and now an upscale diner that will keep you believing breakfast really is the most important meal of the day no matter how many carbs you just ate.
Initially, assorted fruits, breads, croissants and baguettes were served on our table. We were given choices for a plated breakfast meal: Filipino, Western breakfast and Seafood. I chose Western because I like the smell of bacon in the morning! It still ranks high for me as one of the tastiest breakfast items. :)
I really enjoyed the good food at Harvest while listening to the presentation prepared by the Teleserv Team lead by their marketing director, Mr. Raffy David who is also the owner of Harvest Gastro Pub. The presentation was very informative and we were able to share stories as well as some NSO-related questions.
I'm not a breakfast person but I can definitely wake up early for breakfast meals like these that'll definitely put the cheer back into my mornings.

My Western Breakfast meal arrived on a large plate and boy, they did serve a seriously hearty breakfast plate of double smoked bacon, ham, sausages, scrambled eggs, garlic rice, and tomato ensalada.
The presentation was definitely on point, and the plate was full of meat. The rest of the plate was filled up with scrambled egg, salad and rice. The tomato ensalada added contrast to the plate. A dish that pleases my eyes as much as my tongue.
The place from the outside is very classy but inside, it's inviting, mellow and lovely in decor with its black and white theme.

Basically, if you're looking for a spot with great, friendly service, a more than ample beer menu and tasty dishes, this is the place for you. :)
It is open from Monday to Saturday 9am to 2am and hey, they are also open on Sundays 12 noon to 12 midnight

If you're on a seafood diet (you see food and you eat?!) Then go for the Seafood breakfast.
The restaurant's breakfast selections of toast and breads are all hot and fresh, with herbs and spices which gives it an additional degree of freshness. Plus a smashing big breakfast with fresh everything! Washed it down with a glass of fresh orange juice. :)
Since it's a gastro pub, it turns into a pub or a bar at night. There is a classy bar in the corner filled with bottles of wine, signature drinks, cocktail drinks, mocktails, beers and shakes.
The place from the outside is very classy but inside, it's inviting, mellow and lovely in decor with its black and white theme.

The staff were lovely, attentive, and friendly. It is a great brunch spot and even better place to go at night.

Gotta love that elegant black and white interior. Classic.
